You should carry out at least 4 test changeovers before the productive changeover. You should use an up-to-date copy of the productive system for the functional test and dress rehearsal respectively. You should the same dataset for the performance tests, so that you can judge the effect of changing certain basic parameters accurately. To be on the safe side, test a worst case situation, such as termination of the conversion resulting from a power failure. You can thus familiarize yourself with the measures that need to be taken and can react more quickly and correctly should the real situation arise.
